This talk is presented and guided by a Paramedic / Firefighter with over two decades of experience. Stephen King has said that a scattering of verisimilitude is essential for establishing a sense of reality in a story – when your characters encounter disasters, house fires, deadly diseases, heart attacks, poisonings, overdoses, a stay in the hospital or the wrong end of a bullet, let’s make sure you get the details right every time! The first part of this workshop includes a presentation of some of the most egregious errors committed by writers when portraying emergency personnel. During the second half, participants can ask questions specific to their own writing and together we’ll make sure they are realistic while still suiting dramatic purpose.
